The Stegosaurus was a distinctive herbivorous dinosaur that roamed the Earth during the Late Jurassic period, approximately 155 to 150 million years ago. This fascinating creature is easily recognizable by its unique physical characteristics, most notably the double row of large, bony plates running along its back and the formidable spikes on its tail, known as the thagomizer. The Stegosaurus had a small head with a beak-like mouth, ideal for cropping plants, and a heavily built body with short, robust limbs. Despite its imposing appearance, the Stegosaurus was likely a slow-moving, peaceful animal that used its plates possibly for thermoregulation and its tail spikes for defense against predators.
